Your local Childminder...

It is our responsibility at JIGSAW to plan ahead for emergencies that may occur during childminding. Parents need to keep us informed of any changes to their circumstances and contact details. We will ensure that our records are updated accordingly. See below for our plan for dealing with any emergency events that may occur:

General We have access to a telephone; landline and/or mobile at all times and be aware of the location of public payphones nearby. We make provision for an emergency childminder, known to all the children, with whom children may be left. Note; this would only be in an emergency and with the agreement of parents. We update children's records as necessary/appropriate and review children's records at least twice a year with the parents. This includes parent/guardian contact details for home and work; GP details; consent forms. This information is kept in our NCMA organiser and is available upon request by the parent/guardian of a child for their own child/children. We ensure that our own details; emergency contacts; my own GP details are all in an accessible place (NCMA organiser) and made available to parents. We ensure the first aid box is well equipped, clearly labelled and in a safe place inaccessible to children. This is kept in the airing cupboard adjacent to the lounge. We ensure that our First Aid training and certification is visible and kept up to date. We ensure that all children and back-up personnel know of escape routes in the case doors can be used for evacuation. Safe point to convene is at the end of the parking area on the corner of Ferris Ave and Belmont Ave.All adults in the house know the location of the fire blanket and extinguishers; these are kept in the airing cupboard adjacent to the lounge.

First Aid:We ensure that our First Aid training is as up to date as possible; to regularly read through training notes to ensure that we are always familiar with best practices. We remove any child from the source of danger and begin to administer first aid. Inform emergency services if required. Contact parents if a child needs to be seen by a doctor. Establish contact with an emergency back-up childminder (Margaret Jane – Tel 07773 102474) if emergency cover is required. Provide reassurance to the injured child, and the other children. We record what has happened; who it was - name and age of child; when - exact time and date; description of the accident and details of the injury; description of any steps taken afterwards. All records to be kept in the NCMA accident book. As soon as possible after the incident/accident, we ask the parent to sign and date what has been documented. This is done to get confirmation of what has been recorded and that it has been communicated clearly and understood.Ofsted will be informed of any accident, injury or illness that requires hospital treatment.
